“Diaraby” by Ali Farka Touré and Ry Cooder

While listening to a previously noted podcast, the third track caught me. You know how it goes. “Oh shit… I think I’ve heard this before. Yes, I have definitely heard this before! But where? WHERE? WHERE?!”

Sometimes this leads to days and days of searching through memories and iTunes libraries, asking friends, thinking of everything you’ve heard in recent memory.

But today, all it took was a few moments of hard thought. Suddenly, I burst out, “It’s the intro to the Geo-Quiz on PRI’s The World!”

“No, man. I think it’s from that Sting song. ‘Desert Rose,’ right?”

“NO! It’s the Geo-Quiz. I’m going to download an episode from their podcast and prove it to you.”

I did and I did. I vigorously threw my arms in the air and said, “Yes! I’m awesome!” Unfortunately, no one else seemed to agree.
